Designation: DEFENDER // Era: The Conflict // Status: Ascended
"Peace is a garden. It must be walled, or it will be trampled."
The Golden Age ended with a siren. The Shadow Host—a coalition of biological horrors and pirates—struck the undefended colonies of the frontier. Alaric, a former Templar Commander, ascended to the throne amidst the smoke of burning worlds.
He was the antithesis of Seraphina. He famously ordered the golden filigree of the palace gates melted down to cast munitions casings. He militarized the Dominion, transforming artists into soldiers and gardens into bunkers. His reign was not one of joy, but of survival.
Yet, Alaric was not a tyrant. He authored the Prophecies of Judgement, warning that the greatest threat to the Dominion was not the enemy without, but the complacency within.
The Shield He Forged
War with Honor
Alaric feared that in fighting monsters, his people would become them. He codified the military law: "We do not fight because we hate what is before us; we fight because we love what is behind us." This distinction remains the core of Templar training today.
The Inner Eye
Realizing that spies had infiltrated the Golden Age courts, Alaric established a secret police force within the Templars. The Sentinel Watch answers only to the Sovereign, tasked with rooting out corruption and the "Shadow Within."
The Battle of the Core
Alaric led the fleet personally during the defense of Trinitara. Though his flagship, the Iron Will, took heavy fire, he refused to leave the bridge until the Shadow Host was driven back into the void. He died of his wounds shortly after the victory, having bought the Dominion another thousand cycles of life.
A heavy, combat-scarred helmet made of reinforced ferrite. It sits in the Hall of Martyrs, a stark reminder that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
